I don't know how to change tags. And it doesn't work for me anyway.

I was logged in to animation and cartoons when I made my very first upload. As a brand-new uploader, I expected my submission to go into that collection in The Archive. Instead, it went into "Community Video." I didn't understand this discrepancy, so I deleted the upload and tried again. Then I made my original post in the forum asking, "Why didn't it go where it belonged, in the right section, in cartoons and animations?"

Jeff Kaplan basically told me that Community Video was the right place to put it, and that it would only be moved into the proper collection by special request.

Please forgive me, but I am a very new member of The Internet Archive. I don't know how things work. It was, as I see it, a supreme accomplishment on my part to upload a video and have it available on The Archive at all! So the details of how to make that video have all the right tags and have it moved to the right collection are beyond me. The necessary "buttons" and controls just don't seem to be there when I try to tell the system where my submission belongs -- and when the right controls *are* there, they don't work, don't respond to my attempts at control. And then I am told that I did everything right and I am not *supposed* to have any control.

So I am happy to have successfully made a contribution to The Archive, but I am not excited about doing it again. My on-line projects involving enhancing people's Internet security occupy most of my time and energy, so if making a submission to The Internet Archive is going to be an insufferable and unproductive hassle, then I'm going to lose interest.

Sorry.

Best wishes all the same,
Brylcreem

I wrote this rather scathing review of how my post was treated *before* I went to see what you did with my submission, BoopBoopaddoop.

I am so sorry.

You took my cartoon submission and not only put it in the right place, but created the thumbnail images as well, which was something I was wondering how to do.

If I find another cartoon that is in the public domain and which The Archive does not have, and I choose to upload it, then is there some mechanism by which I can tell someone to go look at it and decide what to do with it -- and make sure it gets into the right Archive collection? I don't mean to be a nuisance -- I won't upload a file unless I think it's worthy of being archived, or unless it fills a gap in the collection somewhere.

Any help or advice you might choose to give me would be tremendously appreciated. And I don't feel neglected any more.

Thanks, BoopBoopaddoop.

Everything is okay. I guess you could say that I had some problems getting started with the Archive. First, I didn't understand why my first upload didn't go into the category where it belonged, and I could find no way to reassign it there (animation and cartoons). Then I was told that it was fine, it belonged in Community Video (huh? what?). Then after a few days, it not only ended up in the right collection, but with attendant thumbnails, images and derived codecs as well! Great! But it is still a mystery to me how this happened.

I was very new to the Archive -- my first upload, in fact -- so I was a bit befuddled by it all.

I have now gotten over that. I found another Betty Boop cartoon missing from the Archive, so I uploaded it today. Since I now know what to expect, it's all okay, and I plan to become a dedicated contributor, depending, of course, on what I can find to contribute.

Thank you for your response.
